Vitamin C

Hi beauties!

It´s been a while, but we are coming back with something really interesting. We have been interested in how does Vitamin C helps your skin, and carried out a small research for you.  Probably everyone learned that Vitamin C is good for your skin and gums. But, how does it actually attribute to healthy looking skin and how to make sure it does? So, what´s on today?

VITAMIN C

To start with, Vitamin C is an essential component in the body´s production of collagen. Collagen as you my already know is a long-chain amino acid and the most abundant protein in the body. Together with elastin which gives your skin flexibility, it supports the skin providing form, firmness and strength.

Vitamin C  is an antioxidant which helps your skin revive it´s healthy looks, by minimising signs of ageing and photodamage.

However does eating foods containing Vitamin C really contributes to young looking skin?

The answer in NO, or at least not as well as we think. Why you may wonder?

Firstly, vitamin C is water-soluble, which means that while we digest it a lot of it is eliminated rapidly.  Secondly, very little reaches the skin when orally digested. And , levels of vitamin C in the skin decline with age.

In this case how do we make sure that Vitamin C does actually work directly our skin?

The answer is very simple, apply it topically. Which means directly onto your skin.

This way you will ensure collagen formation, helping your skin to maintain firm and youthful look.  As a matter of fact applying Vitamin C directly onto your skin is 20 times more effective than oral ingestion.

What to use?

You can go for natural produce like Vitamin C sprays (BODYSHOP for example has an amazing one).  As a matter of fact it is not difficult to find Vitamin C concentrates, sprays etc. And generally speaking they all do their job. However you can simply apply Vitamin C onto your skin using home methods.  DIY your own masks, you can use fruits to make a face mask or, you can rub fruits directly onto your face allowing their juices to replenish your skin.

Perhaps some of you are not big DIY fans, yet those methods really work.

Consensus?

Do not eat plenty of foods filled with Vitamin C in hope to achieve a healthy glowing skin, simply apply them, or professional products onto your skin instead!

Till next time beauties,
